New Online Video Management and Publishing Service From UWTV

Mediaamp_icon UWTV now offers a central hub for storing, managing, and distributing online video and other digital assets for a fee. The service, Media AMP, provides a feature-rich media player plus tools to display your video and syndicate it to external media sites – your unit’s site, YouTube, mobiles. Husky Ready: New UW Continuity Planning Tool

Earthquake A new online tool can help UW units be prepared to continue to operate when an unplanned interruption from a disaster happens. The UW Business, Academic and Research Continuity (BARC) Management program is piloting Husky Ready, a continuity planning tool to help units identify their critical functions, strategies, and actions to create a continuity plan for when an earthquake, fire, or critical hard drive failure strikes. (Note: Only staff in units currently involved in the pilot will have administrative rights to Husky Ready at this time.) Husky Ready is powered by Kuali Ready, the Kuali Foundation’s first Software as a Service offering for higher education. Kuali member universities collaborate on developing administrative software for higher education, and the UW is a contributing partner in the Kuali Student and Kuali Rice projects.

E-RESOURCE: NetLibrary Hosting Changes July 16

Ebsco NetLibrary, one of UW Libraries’ eBook platforms, will migrate to the EBSCOhost platform on July 18. How does this affect you? Current checkouts, saved favorites, or notes in your personal NetLibrary account will NOT be migrated, so save any information you want to keep by July 16. Sustainable Course Support: UW School of Social Work Turns to CommonView

Sw Faced with reduced support staff last fall, the School of Social Work faculty took control of their own course Web site content. By leveraging UW-hosted Catalyst CommonView, and with a little help from UW-IT for customized training sessions, faculty created their own online course materials for 61 classes. Learn how the School and its two-person IT team created this successful model of sustainable course support in this Profile of Technology Use.

Supercomputing '11 Education Program: Applications Due July 31

Sc11 College faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and students considering careers in STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply for the Education Program at the SC11 conference, held November 12-15 in Seattle. The program aims to help integrate high performance computing and computational science and engineering techniques into the classroom and research. You can request the $380 registration fee be covered when you apply by July 31. See the sample application.
