UW Ranks No. 1 on “America’s Coolest School” List

Green The UW is at the top of the Sierra Club’s annual ranking of the 20 greenest colleges in the U.S. According to UW Today, the UW is recognized for its sustainable operations and for earning LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for every building built since 2006, the UW has been on the list for the last four years.

UWTV Series Features DO-IT Students

Do-it Students in the UW’s DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking and Technology) program are featured in a series of 12 UWTV videos. They speak about the adapted environments and technologies that help them have equal access to learning and employment opportunities. Some of these individuals are in the DO-IT Scholars program, where high school students attend Summer Study sessions at the UW to prepare for college and careers.

UW Joins Gig.U to Extend Fast Networks to Neighborhoods

Speed The University of Washington has joined over 30 other U.S. universities in Gig.U, a project to bring ultra-high-speed computer networks to neighboring communities to spur economic growth and innovation. By providing Internet service that is several hundred times faster than what is commercially available, the project seeks to attract high-tech startups. Gig.U members are reaching out to telecommunications companies, corporations, and nonprofits for suggestions and business ideas, reports The New York Times.
