Information Security & Data Management at UW: October 10

Brownbag_60 Bring your lunch and questions about information security, privacy, and data management at UW to a brown bag on October 10, noon to 1:00 p.m., in the UW Tower 4th Floor Visitors Dining Room. Kirk Bailey, UW Chief Information Security Officer, and Todd Mildon, Associate Vice Provost, Institutional Research and Data Management, will facilitate the discussion. Tech_60 UW students: Come to the Student Technology Fair, “Tech 4 U”, hosted by UW-IT at UW Seattle's Odegaard Undergraduate Library, 2nd floor, on September 28. Stop by from noon to 4:00 p.m. to see the latest technology upgrades in Odegaard Learning Commons, learn about technology offered by the Access Technology Center, Catalyst Web Tools, Classroom Support Services, Libraries Media Center, Mobile Communications, Office of Planning and Budgeting, Student Technology Fee Committee, and UW Police. Win prizes, grab giveaways, attend a presentation, and meet representatives from Adobe, Apple, CDW-G, Google, Microsoft, T-Mobile, and University Bookstore Tech Center.

Microsoft at UW Seattle: Discounts, Free Services, Giveaways, 9/21-29

Microsoft-fair Microsoft will be at UW Seattle’s Red Square September 21-23 and September 26-29, during Dawg Daze. Look for the Microsoft Window’s U Experience tent for UW-only discounts and offers through the Microsoft Store, prize raffles, and other freebies. Students can take advantage of Windows 7 Professional and Office 2010 free upgrade service for their personal PC. Microsoft is a UW 150th anniversary sponsor.

E-RESOURCE: RefWorks

Refworks_60 Saving, organizing, and sharing your citations is easy with the new, improved version of RefWorks, a UW-restricted citation management tool brought to you by UW Libraries. The updated interface let’s you store, navigate, and disseminate research materials you've gathered from a variety of sources, including catalogs, databases, and Web pages. RefWorks also saves you time by automatically formatting your bibliographies into whatever style you need.

Apple Software Now Available for UW-Owned Computers

Apple-logo_60 UW faculty and staff now have access to select Apple software for use on UW-owned computers only. This includes the Macintosh operating systems OS X 10.7 (Lion) and X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), iWork 09 (for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations), and iLife 11 (for photos, movies, and music). UW Purchasing, the iSchool, and UW-IT negotiated this licensing agreement with Apple Corporation at a significant savings; the cost is covered by the basic services bundle. UW employees can get details online.
