UW Pocketmedia Film Festival: Entries Due February 7

Pocketmedia_Logo UW students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to submit a short film (two minutes or less) shot using a pocket camera on the theme Voices in Your Community. At some point, the film must feature the UW Common Book, You Are Never Where You Are. Go online for prize information and details (watch the YouTube video), and submit your entry by February 7.

UW Libraries now subscribes to Ethnographic Video Online, a UW-restricted database that provides access to a large collection of classic and contemporary cultural documentaries, online in streaming video. This comprehensive resource for the study of human culture and behavior also includes transcripts, field notes and video-clip making tools.

Camcorder Faculty, staff, and students are invited to Digital Media Demo Day at UW, presented by UW’s Digital Media Special Interest Group and UWTV. Don't miss several presentations from Sony representatives on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in UWTV's Kane Hall studio. Explore tapeless workflow options, watch camera demonstrations, and check out new digital signage solutions. Attendees will also have a chance to win a Sony Blu-Ray HD player. Media Center DVDs Now More Visible

MediaCenterLogo Looking for something new to view this weekend? Students, faculty, and staff have always been able to search online and borrow videos from the Media Center at Odegaard Library, UW Seattle. Now you can browse about 2,000 of the 30,000 items in the collection, including those from major producers, on racks similar to those at your favorite video store. UW Pocketmedia Winners

Pocketmedia_Logo Two staff, an alumnus, and two sophomores were winners in the first UW Pocketmedia Film Festival. Entrants were required to use a video camera device small enough to fit in their pocket (hence the festival title) to tell their "What do U do at the UW?" story in 90 seconds. Go online to see the creative use of this pocketmedia technology, or catch these shorts on UWTV (channel 27 in the Puget Sound area) between the regular programming.
